While there are so many shows that I like and watch (Doctor Who (classic + new), Battlestar Galactica 2004, Dexter, True Blood, Supernatural, Babylon 5, Farscape, Being Human (UK), etc.) my current obsession happens to be Buffy. I have to admit that while it originally aired I was never a fan. Sure I caught 1 or 2 episodes here and there early on, but never really got hooked. To be honest, at the time I would have been ashamed to admit to watching it because of the title alone. Then along came Serenity/Firefly which got me hooked on Whedon, so that I eventually got around to Buffy just recently. I can say now that I am in no way at all ashamed of watching and loving this pretty amazing TV experience. I just finished re-watching the entire series, after having first watched it fully only a year ago.
For me the first season was OK, nothing worth getting too excited about. That trend carried through for the first half of the second season for me, right up until "Surprise" (2x13) and "Innocence" (2x14). Those two episodes hooked me and I couldn't wait to see where it went to from there. Even with that there were a couple of letdowns episode-wise. Then you come to the season finale, the "Becoming" duology. After watching those I was literally stunned, that is what turned me from merely hooked into a true fan.
My take on the series at this point is naturally tinted with rose colored glasses, since I have seen the series in its entirety more than once now. There are plenty of reviews out on the Internet, some of them quite exceptional with a variety of perspectives, eg. MikeJer, Soulful Spike Society, Cultural Catchup, etc., which have in turn inspired me to get my thoughts down. So what do I hope to do with these posts? For me, this is more of a journal entry for my own thoughts. I don't plan on going into 10 page essays on each episode, there will hopefully be enough coverage of the entire series when this is all said and done to be worthwhile enough to have posted. These will be used as my own snapshot of my thoughts that I can revisit a year or a decade from now, because it is a certainty that I will be still be re/watching then. I know my views on this series have changed over the years, quite considerably as a matter of fact. As I've already stated upon first catching the show, I would have been ashamed to admit to watching it because of the title alone. I mean, come on, I literally laughed out loud when I first heard the title. That has obviously changed, and now I consider this one of my all time favorite shows. These posts are my opinions, which may or may not be shared by others. If someone has a different POV then I would be more than happy to reply to any comments made to that effect. If these thoughts have been made before, or don't sit well with you, please ignore them and go on your merry way. ; )

Just what the world needs, another blog
Try not to get too excited.
Since the blog name is rather generic I thought I'd explain a little about what my ramblings will be about. Mostly what's happening at the time. My current interests and whats grabbed my fancy for the moment.
For a while there it was all about gaming. I'm a gamer from way back in the days of yore when people sat around in a circle staring at this new thing called fire. Well maybe not quite that far back. I started gaming with D&D Basic. I didn't initially start out with the "Red Box" set because I figured I wanted to try the Expert version. I mean I was no dummy. Well, I got the expert set without really reading the box too carefully. Needless to say I wound up going back for the "basic" set shortly thereafter.
After reading the first module (B1 In Search of the Unknown) I was hooked. It's really hard to describe that feeling back then when first exploring the new realms of possibilities this opened up to me. That was what was really the most exciting part at that time. There was no fixed limit to what could be done. It was really up to you to come up with the adventures storyline within the framework of the adventure module. I remember corralling two friends into playing this. I doubt that we had half the rules right when we played, but man did we have a blast. Between the three of us we played that for the next two weeks straight. The addiction had begun, and there was only more adventures and games to come. That has fallen to the wayside for the moment, as I move onto my current interest which is catching up on movies and TV series that I've missed, or haven't been keeping up with lately. I've found that my viewing habits have changed quite a bit from when I was younger. With a few exceptions, I rarely watch what is currently airing. I wait 'till the season/series is over and watch it all at once. Yeah, I know, a bit strange, but then none of us are totally sane are we?
I must admit that putting this thing together made me feel a little self-conscious. It seems like such an narcissistic undertaking; as though I’m building a little digital shrine to me. But, I suppose writing is an inherently egotistical act as it is. So, bottom line – It appears that I’m totally into myself. I’m going to go now and think about that while standing in front of a really big mirror.
